ik houd van fruitig vlaams bier

i don’t really like beer.

yeah; i grew up in belgium,
where … if you’re tall enough to put money on the counter,
you’re tall enough to drink.
and if we went down to the corner store,
we could get a can of stella artois for 25 belgian francs.

but i much preferred sneaking out of the house with my sister,
going downtown with the marines,
and drinking midori with coke.

and i’ve pretty much always been a straight hard liquor or cocktails girl.

well, until lately.

i began to discover my affinity for fruity flemish beers with lindeman’s cassis,
which is what i describe as a champagne beer when serving it to the unknowing.
my preference was furthered when i was lucky enough to try a glass of floris appel witbier.
and what was a simple inclination …
became a much deeper appreciation and a growing admiration when i found duchesse de bourgogne.
that is one hell of a beer! (should be the goddess de bourgogne, though, if you ask me.)

the last time i went to bottleworks, i wanted to try something new.
given my severely limited enjoyment of beer in general,
i often end up buying one bottle of something that sounds intriguing …
but ends up in the glass of my boyfriend because i don’t enjoy it in mine.
(the last one that suffered that fate was the three philosophers …)

anyway, back to bottleworks …
amongst the belgians,
i came upon a slender hot pink can of beer with a bright neon green (and obviously feminine) silhouette.
it made me smirk.
it described itself as a rasberry witbier.
that made me smile.
i looked around some more and found that it came in a six-pack.
that made me laugh because i could envision my boyfriend laughing when he saw it.

so it was off to the counter with a hot pink six-pack of beer (wittekerke rosé), a 73% pure cocoa dark belgian cholocate bar, and two duchesse glasses …

i finally tried the beer this week.

i am now – officially – a fruity flemish fermented-beer fanatic.

wittekerke rose

if i had to describe this beer in one word … lekker!
